Immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Travel Medicine, Royal College of Physician and Surgeon of Glasgow and Defence Consultant Adviser in Communicable Disease.

 

Gp Capt Andy Green trained at St George's Hospital Medical School, London and joined the Royal Air Force in 1983 after house jobs. He trained as a specialist in Clinical Microbiology, and was appointed Consultant Microbiologist in 1991.

 

He is currently Defence Consultant Adviser in Communicable Diseases, and advises the Surgeon General on all aspects of infectious diseases and their control, including biological warfare. Gp Capt Green sits on a number of national and international committees, both military and civilian. He has published over 100 scientific articles, and has research interests in Travel Medicine and disease transmission on-board aircraft.

 

In 2009, he was appointed Director of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) with a remit to lead the development of IPC practice across the Defence Medical Services, and moved to his current position at the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine in Birmingham.

 

During the summer of 2014 he became one of the Military leads advising on clinical aspects of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) response of the United Kingdom. He continues to act as a specialist adviser to the Department of Health and the World Health Organization on transportation of patients with highly transmissible infectious diseases. He was appointed as Dean of the Faculty of Travel Medicine in October 2015.
